Biography

Jimmie Briggs is an award-winning writer, lecturer, and activist focusing on issues of youth and violence and trauma and gender. A National Magazine Award-finalist and recipient of honors from the Open Society Institute, National Association of Black Journalists, and the Carter Center for Mental Health Journalism, his book on child soldiers and war-affected children Innocents Lost: When Child Soldiers Go to War won him accolades in 2005. He is the founding executive director of Man Up, a global campaign to activate youth to stop violence against women and girls.   Currently, he is the executive director of Leave Out Violence, a media arts initiative to assist youth affected by violence to create positive change in their lives.
